New Business Policies in China Creating Opportunity for U.S. Business

Guangzhou, China: Eugene Liang, President of the Canton Fair Import & Export Co. and Stephen Perl, CFO of 1st PMF Bancorp in front of the Canton Fair's booth at the fair.

The Canton Fair Changes after 56 years... Creates A New Market for U.S Companies to Sell
The Canton Fair after 56 years has changed its name as well as its business model. Now called "The China Import and Export Fair", it is the largest manufacturing show/platform in the world. More than a trade show, the Chinese Government has maintained this event as a platform for selling its products to the world. And consequently, the show formerly known as "The Canton Fair" has become the World's manufacturing floor. This year, for the first time in its history, the Fair is allowing foreign companies (i.e. US Firms) to sell their products at the Fair to Chinese companies directly. This change has come about due to China’s need for more goods to maintain its growth and due to political pressures to create a more balanced trade with the U.S. and other countries.

1st PMF Bancorp and the China Import and Export Fair (formerly: The Canton Fair) have been strategic partners over the years to provide PMF's clients with access to the best quality sourcing partners while PMF provides its trade financing products to assist the Fair with their clients' financing needs. 1st PMF Bancorp has created its own network of offices and spent years training its staff in China and U.S. to provide not only financing, but also sourcing and supply chain management support that small to mid-market companies need in the U.S. Additionally, PMF is also providing access for U.S. companies to buy booths at the up coming fairs (booths for October are available). To learn more about The China Import and Export Fair and 1st PMF Bancorp's services, please feel free to contact our offices in U.S. and/or China.

Trade Finance Made…Simple

Small business in the U.S. today has become more global than ever, especially in Los Angeles. Los Angeles has become the focal point for trade with Asia with annual trade volumes of over $170 billion. 1st PMF Bancorp has become a regional bank specializing in trade finance, and their CFO, Mr. Stephen Perl, decribes the Los Angeles business market as “looking for more sophisticated financial structure, which include elements of supply chain management solutions and global know how.” The trends of trade financing and the solutions to companies' needs are changing, and the traditional banks have few tools to fuel their clients growth in this new economy.

Best of CES 2007

Last month, more than 150,000 attendees flocked to Las Vegas to ogle all the pretty shiny things offered up at this latest Consumer Electronics Show. While the word 'best' is highly subjective, we think these following things are neat.

Best Media Player

LG Super Multi Blue

In case you've not been paying attention, there are forces out there that want to make your DVD library obsolete. And regardless of how you feel about this (I don't like it none too much), a change is a comin'. Sony wants you to buy their Blu-Ray discs and players. Toshiba wants you to buy their version: HD-DVD. This war has even spilled onto the console gaming front, futher seperating Playstation and Xbox enthusiasts. Luckily, the forward minded LG is coming out with this player that will accept both formats. So no need to worry about whether or not you're backing the wrong horse.

Best Computer

OQO Model 02

This thing is roughly the size of two ipods, which could give you the wrong idea. It could be mistaken for a handheld gaming system or a slightly oversized blackberry. But it's a fully integrated PC that runs the new Windows Vista operating system.

Best Phone

LG VX9400

Well, well, well. LG has certainly been a busy little company this year. Not only did it effectively end the DVD format war, it also made the coolest looking phone to be released this year (yes that includes you too iPhone) Although swivel screens are already popular in Europe and parts of Asia, this will be the first time a phone with this capability reaches the U.S. It's surpsisingly slim and the screen swivels to lock in landscape mode for the first true TV phone experience. Not a huge screen, but still a huge step for all us technogeeks.
